Hello, World

First post on haris.rip — a quick note on why this blog exists and what to expect.

Welcome to the blog. This is a place where I’ll write about the things I build, the mistakes I learn from, and the small details that make software feel good to use.

Why a blog

I read a lot of technical writing, and the posts I come back to are the ones that show the messy parts — the bugs that didn’t have an obvious cause, the designs that sounded clean on paper and fell apart in practice. I want to write more of that, and less of the “here’s how to install X” kind of thing.

What to expect

Expect posts about:

  • Projects I’m working on (see the portfolio)
  • Deep dives into a single bug or design decision
  • Notes on tools I’m using and why

A small code sample

Here’s a trivial Go snippet to confirm syntax highlighting works:

package main

import "fmt"

func main() {
    fmt.Println("hello, haris.rip")
}

A deeper dive into testing the layout

To see how the “back to blog” link and the footer spacing behave, we need a bit more vertical height. Let’s talk about something technical to fill the space.

Building for the web

Modern web development is often a balancing act between speed and feature set. When building haris.rip, I wanted something that felt fast, looked minimal, and didn’t rely on massive JavaScript bundles. Using Hugo allows me to pre-render everything into static HTML, which is then served instantly.

Design and Typography

The choice of fonts like Space Grotesk and JetBrains Mono was intentional. One provides a clean, modern feel for headings, while the other gives technical context for code and data. The dark theme is a personal preference, but it also helps reduce eye strain during long reading sessions.

Layout and Spacing

We just adjusted the spacing between the blog content and the footer. By reducing the padding-bottom and margin-top values, the “back to blog” link should now feel more integrated into the post structure rather than floating in a sea of empty space.

More placeholder content

Here’s more text to ensure we have to scroll.

  • Item one: Exploring new frameworks.
  • Item two: Optimizing build pipelines.
  • Item three: Thinking about user experience.
